SMHL-Vimetco management receive the visit of the Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone on the 20th December 2018. In his opening statement, the Resident Minister South Mohamed Alie thank SMHL for such a warm welcome given to the Vice President. He said the purpose of the Vice President visit is to familiarize himself with SMHL operations and share with management government agenda for the private sector. The Resident Minister informed the Vice President that SMHL-Vimetco is very supportive to the host communities. He intimated the VP about ongoing projects within the communities and the award of scholarship to 207 tertiary students.
The Chairman Bonth District Council Mr. Moses Probyn also praised SMHL-Vimetco for their initiatives in developing the communities. He informed the Vice President that he is the part of the Committee that discuss and agree on projects to be undertaken by the Community Development Committee. He said the company is doing extremely well to change the lives of the people.
The General Manager of Sierra Mineral Holdings 1 Limited Mr. Alex Ivanov thanked the Vice President for the visit. He said since he took up duty as General Manager, the visit of the Vice President is the highest level of visit to his operation. Mr. Ivanov said this is an indication of his government commitment and support to SMHL operations. The GM said, most of the Senior Management staff are young Sierra Leoneans and a very small number of expatriate staff are part of his team. He stated SMHL commitment to comply with all regulatory requirements despite the challenges the company is facing.
The Vice President thanked SMHL-Vimetco management for the good work and their impact in the communities. He expressed gratitude about what he heard from the stakeholders with regards the development strides the company is making. He said their government will support the private sector to develop and create jobs for the people. He revealed that government has created a committee under the Office of the President and that committee will liaise and discuss with various investment sectors on their challenges and required support from Central Government. The aim is to provide support to these companies so that they can be competitive. He advised SMHL to continuously engage with their communities and ensure whoever leads the community engagement should be able to speak the language of the people in order to bridge any communication gaps. The Vice President praised SMHL for employing more Sierra Leoneans and for developing the communities. He said he is looking to further visits to our operations
